What is a gift article?
All subscribers of The Atlantic can share unlimited gift articles to anyone who isn’t currently an Atlantic subscriber. Recipients don’t need to sign in or register—they’ll have free access for 14 days.
How to gift an article?
To gift an article, make sure you are an active subscriber and are logged in on TheAtlantic.com. When viewing an article on site, you should see the option to “Share as gift.”
Upon selecting "Share as gift" you will see options for ways you can gift the article.
If you are signed into the mobile app, tap the three dots on an article page or article card. Select the “Share as gift” and you will see the options for ways you can gift the article.
How many articles can I gift?
Subscribers to The Atlantic can gift unlimited articles.
Does a recipient need to register or subscribe to view the gifted article?
No, a recipient does not need to register or subscribe in order to view the gifted article, unless their access expires.
How long will a recipient be able to view the gifted article?
Gift article recipients will have access to view the gifted article for 14 days. Once their access expires, they will need to subscribe in order to view the article again.
How will a recipient know they’ve received a gifted article?
Anyone who’s not currently a subscriber to The Atlantic who views a gifted article, will see a note that tells them the article has been gifted to them and how much longer they’ll have access to view it.
Can I gift articles on The Atlantic’s mobile app?
Yes, this feature is available in The Atlantic's mobile app for iOS and Android.
