Eligible Atlantic subscribers can change plans online via Manage Subscription > Change Plan, with prorated charges or refunds shown before confirmation. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades are limited to once per term. Ineligible subscribers should contact Customer Care.
Can I change my Atlantic subscription plan online?
You may be able to upgrade or downgrade your subscription online, depending on your subscription type and payment method. If online changes aren’t available, you’ll be prompted to contact Customer Care.
Before you confirm a change, you’ll see a preview of any charge, refund, or credit that applies to your subscription.
How do I upgrade my subscription?
If your subscription is eligible, you can upgrade to a higher-tier plan, such as changing from Digital to Print & Digital or Premium Plus.
Sign in at accounts.theatlantic.com.
Select Manage Subscription.
Select Change Plan.
Choose your new plan and review the order preview. The preview shows the price difference and, when applicable, the number of print issues you’ll receive for the rest of your subscription term.
Confirm your upgrade.
You’ll receive a confirmation email after the change is complete.
What happens when I upgrade?
You’ll be charged the prorated difference between your current plan and your new plan.
Your upgraded benefits take effect immediately after you confirm the change.
For automatically renewing subscriptions, your renewal date remains unchanged.
Credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are eligible payment methods for online upgrades.
How do I downgrade my subscription?
If your subscription is eligible, you can downgrade to a lower-tier plan, such as changing from Print & Digital to Digital. You can make one downgrade during each subscription term.

Select Manage Subscription.
Select Change Plan.
Choose your new plan and review the summary, including any refund or credit due.
Confirm your downgrade.
You’ll receive an email confirmation with updated billing details.
What happens when I downgrade?
Your access continues without interruption.
Your new plan takes effect immediately after you confirm the change.
When eligible, we’ll automatically issue a prorated refund for the unused portion of your higher-tier plan.
You can make one downgrade per subscription term.
For automatically renewing subscriptions, your renewal date remains unchanged.
Any charge, refund, or credit applies to your current subscription term.
Some payment methods aren’t eligible for refunds. For example, PayPal transactions older than 180 days and certain external payment types can’t be refunded because of payment-processor restrictions.
Which subscriptions can’t be changed online?
The following subscriptions aren’t eligible for online upgrades or downgrades:
Trial subscriptions
Gift subscriptions
Complimentary subscriptions
Subscriptions with certain payment or refund restrictions
Subscriptions that have already been downgraded during the current subscription term
Subscriptions with fewer than 30 days remaining in the current billing period
If your subscription has fewer than 30 days remaining, you’ll be able to make changes after your next renewal. If you need help with a subscription that can’t be changed online, contact Customer Care.
