Listen to narrated articles from The Atlantic

Subscribers have unlimited access to The Atlantic, which includes narrated versions of articles. You can find an audio player at the top of select stories on the website and in The Atlantic app for iOS and Android. Or go to TheAtlantic.com/audio for the latest narrated articles.

A subscription also includes an exclusive podcast feed of magazine stories called The Atlantic Out Loud. To access this subscriber-only feed, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Atlantic account. Please make sure this account is the one associated with your subscription.
  2. In your account, go to “Library” in the left toolbar, then “Audio Articles.”
  3. You’ll find the link to The Atlantic Out Loud RSS feed. Copy the link and add the private feed to your preferred podcast player (some players like Pocket Casts enable this, others like Spotify do not).
  4. OR you can connect your subscription to Apple Podcasts. Once you do, you’ll find The Atlantic Out Loud on The Atlantic’s channel page.

You can adjust the playback speed of an audio article in the app by following the steps below:

  1. Tap the audio file you’d like to listen to.
  2. A pop-up will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap the pop-up to expand the audio player.
  4. On the left side, tap the speed to change it.

You can remove the audio from your queue so it will no longer play.

In the Atlantic app:

  1. Open Settings and select My Audio Queue.
  2. Close the audio pop-up at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
  4. Select the audio you’d like to remove.
  5. Tap Delete at the bottom of the screen.
  6. The selected audio will then be removed from your queue.

NOTE: We are currently working on a bug for the Android app that is causing the Delete option to be covered by the phones bottom navigation bar. While we work on this problem we would recommend that you adjust your phone settings to remove the bottom bar and use swipe gestures. You then should have access to the option.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app.
  2. Go to System, then select Navigation Mode.
  3. Select one of the following options:Gesture navigation: No buttons.
  4. 3-button navigation: Three buttons for Home, Back, and App Overview.
