You may be able to change your Atlantic subscription plan online in your account, depending on your subscription type and payment method. Otherwise, you will be prompted to contact our Customer Care team.
Whether you want to add print delivery, move to a digital-only plan, or adjust your subscription level, you’ll always see a preview of any charges or refunds before confirming.
Upgrading Your Plan
If you’re eligible, you can upgrade online to a higher-tier plan — for example, from Digital to Print & Digital or Premium Plus — directly through your account.
How to upgrade
- Sign in at accounts.theatlantic.com.
- Select Manage Subscription.
- Click Change Plan.
- Choose your new plan and review the order preview. You’ll see the price difference and, if applicable, how many print issues you’ll receive for the rest of your term.
- Confirm your upgrade. You’ll receive a confirmation email once the change is complete.
Billing and timing
- You’ll be charged only the prorated difference between your current plan and your new plan.
- Your upgraded benefits take effect immediately after you confirm the change.
- Eligible payment methods include credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.
- For automatically renewing subscriptions, your renewal date remains unchanged.
Downgrading Your Plan
If you’re eligible, you can downgrade your plan online — for example, from Premium to Digital or from Print & Digital to Digital — once during each subscription term.
How to downgrade
- Sign in at accounts.theatlantic.com.
- Go to Manage Subscription.
- Choose Change Plan.
- Select your new plan and review the summary, including any refund or credit due.
- Confirm your change. You’ll receive an email confirmation and updated billing details.
Refunds and limitations
- When you downgrade, we’ll automatically issue a prorated refund for the unused portion of your higher-tier plan.
- You can make one downgrade per subscription term.
-
Some payment methods aren’t eligible for refunds. For example, PayPal transactions older than 180 days and certain external payment types can’t be refunded due to payment-processor restrictions.
For automatically renewing subscriptions, your renewal date remains unchanged.
Eligibility for Online Changes
Not every subscription can be upgraded or downgraded online.
Not eligible for online upgrades or downgrades:
- Trial subscriptions
- Gift subscriptions
- Premium Plus subscriptions
- Certain subscriptions with payment or refund restrictions
- Subscriptions that have already been downgraded during the current term
- Subscriptions with fewer than 30 days remaining in the current billing period
Note: If your subscription has fewer than 30 days remaining, you’ll be able to make changes after your next renewal.
